It's so similar to English), Bajoran, Andorian, VulcanHistory: James was born on Vulcan, but when he was 10 months old, his father kidnapped him and took him to Earth at the end of a messy divorce. This wasn't discovered until later. He was raised by his father in Black Mesa, New Mexico after his father went there for a scientist gig for a while before going back to being a starship captain when James was about 12, taking the kid along with him. James doesn't know much about his mother since his father never talked about her, and he's under the impression that she never wanted him in the first place. (False)Growing up being raised as human in human culture, James didn't have the best relationship with his father and didn't have many friends due to being one of the few children on board. He left as soon as he could and went to the Starfleet Academy where he studied in Engineering for a while. While in the Academy he'd been diagnosed with total situs invertus, and has to wear a medical bracelet. It's a wonder that he hadn't been diagnosed before. He also participated in boxing, kickboxing to be specific, and even won a few tournaments. His father never attended his fights. He was put on his father's ship the USS Mesa as an engineer after leaving the Academy at graduation. He pursued his studies, even picking up Advanced Theoretical Physics, nearly getting a doctorate in the subject until he suffered a serious mental breakdown which caused him to be put on medical leave for a while and pause his studies. He knows more about physics than engineering at this point and rather enjoys learning about various subjects that interest him on his own time. He's currently trying to learn about Vulcan culture and physiology since he had never been exposed to it as a child and didn't get enough exposure to it in the Academy. His schedule never lined up quite right to take a class on it, much to his dismay. He decided to go into security alongside his engineering duties when he came back and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the ship's Chief of Security on his own merit after the previous retired and highly recommended him.
He is currently working on a permanent transfer elsewhere due to not wanting to associate with his former crew or have anything to do with his father who is now dead to him.A lot has happened after his transfer to the USS Enterprise. He had a mission to the galactic barrier during what was supposed to be his shore leave which left him with powers/abilities similar to Gary Mitchell's, however, he is still much the same in personality. After what is dubbed as The Shrimp Saga (which is too long to add here right now, you can just ask about it), he was promoted to Captain. His promotion had been in the works for a while since he'd been a Commander for about 5 years without any negative marks on his service record. After his promotion, he chose to remain with the Enterprise crew for the rest of the 5-year mission.
This is an alternate timeline version of James/Sokel where he was raised by his mother.

Before that he had been taken by his father without his mother’s knowing. However, this version of James had been infected with a virus that didn’t affect humans, but is something that is immunized against in Vulcan children since it could be deadly if untreated. Symptoms include lack of control over emotions, the affected Vulcan being unable to use telepathy and being unable to be reached by telepathy (this comes back to them gradually after their body returns to normal and is not permanent in most cases), hallucinations, tremors, nightmares, fits of rage, fever, lack of coordination, dizziness, and in more serious cases seizures. So, risking his own freedom, James/Sokel’s father, Captain Richard Bennett brought the child back to Vulcan for treatment. Richard was arrested and Sokel was rushed into treatment. Sokel survived after spending a month in intensive care which is not uncommon for children infected by the disease. He required a few more months of physical and emotional therapy due to his balance and mental trauma respectively.Once out of the hospital, he was under the care of his mother and raised as a Vulcan. He was betrothed to another politician’s child named Savel when both children turned 7 years old. The two got along pretty well after they met and became very close due to their shared interests in the arts; playing music, singing, dancing, painting. The two also enjoyed natural sciences. They could often be seen together outside chasing small lizards or practicing their music together. Savel even chose to remain bonded with Sokel after Sokel came out as trans to him. Savel had reasoned that he had promised himself to Sokel, and would not back down from a promise of someone he’d grown to love. The two both survived their kahs-wan. They even went on to going to the Vulcan Science Academy together, pursuing the same field of xenomedicine. They are a team out on the field and together in the operating room. Savel admits that Sokel is more skilled with a scalpel, and Sokel admits that Savel is more skilled in diagnosing illnesses. The two travel together as doctors, even joining with Starfleet due to that branch of the Federation being behind on the medical treatment of other humanoid species. Sokel and Savel are also both professors at the academy when they aren’t traveling together. They have an incredibly strong bond and can even communicate through that bond over a fairly large distance due to their strong psi abilities and the depth of their bond. The two eventually decided to get married at age 28, even though neither had entered pon farr due to how close the two were to one another and the fact that they had finished their schooling.Conditions:
-Prosopagnosia (he can recognize his mother and Savel easily due to his bonds with them)
-He has a disability due to his illness as a child where he occasionally has problems with emotional control (for a Vulcan) which makes him very irritable and expressive, balance issues, light headedness, confusion (trouble remembering where he is, who he's with, why he's doing something, what he's doing), and sensitivity to sensations. He hasn't been a seizure risk for a few years, but his doctors keep a close eye on his condition. He keeps on top of it with medication every three days and meditation twice a day. There is no recognized cure, even melds do not help forever. Without his medication he is at risk for seizures. He is unable (not allowed) to go on long term missions (missions greater than 3 months), but is often called in as a specialist along with his husband. Savel is his caretaker when he is having rougher days where he cannot care for himself. These days are getting rarer with time and better medicine, but they do happen.
The differences between Sokel's timeline and James's
- George Kirk is alive, and the Kelvin never was destroyed. George Kirk currently holds the title of Admiral, and is very well respected. He and his wife raised their sons together aboard a starship since regulations for that type of thing in this universe allowed it as long as the safety of the children could be ensured. This meant less dangerous/risky missions.- Vulcan was not destroyed since George Kirk and a team had managed to apprehend Nero. However, Nero along with the rest of his group is dead due to taking poison during capture since death was preferable to them.-The Federation had allowed Khan and other augmented humans a chance at rehabilitation and a chance to form their own colony on a habitable planet where they would send ships to check on them from time to time. This was agreed upon after much deliberation and debate, and they had been living peacefully with little interference from the Federation and Starfleet except to provide aid when necessary. This prevented them from being stuck on Ceti Alpha V and struggling to survive.-Genetic engineering/augmentation is not fully illegal, but it is heavily regulated. It can only be used in cases where it is deemed a medical necessity to allow for the survival of a being and to alleviate intractable suffering. Genetically modified beings are allowed in Starfleet as long as modifications were done out of medical necessity and/or to alleviate intractable suffering rather than to provide an unnecessary advantage.-Starfleet in Sokel's timeline is more militarized in a sense that they're less apprehensive to admit to being militarized. They still function much like Starfleet in most other timelines.-Romulans became interested with Humanity due to their similarities and occupied Earth for a short time which led to Humans developing warp drive sooner due to banding together for independence to fight off their invaders. Vulcans came to Earth's aid once they discovered humans had become warp capable in such a short time as well as them just wanting to keep Romulans from gaining more territory. In turn, the first contact with Vulcans and Humans happened much sooner.-Hybridization is more common due to genetic engineering/modification being legal and regulated with more study being put into it. Hybrids being able to have children of their own, should they choose, is also more common due to this fact. They are also more likely to be able to have children without medical intervention with the races they are a part of. For example; a vulcan/human hybrid would be able to have children with humans and vulcans without medical intervention though they may need it if wanting to have children with an andorian.-Surak died from old age at age 315 instead of on Mount Seleya. This led to a greater depth of his teachings. This Surak encouraged Vulcans to not completely purge their emotions, but to control them with logic and meditation. He reasoned that beings of pure logic cannot see the harm they may cause to others even if that harm may not be in body but in mind and soul. However, mastering feelings with logic to tame them will result in a healthier individual and society that is able to empathize with not just other Vulcans, but with other alien races. It is natural to feel, but civilized to maintain control. There is no shame in feeling, but there is shame in acting irrationally and without logic to control and to guide feeling. This resulted to a Vulcan society that do maintain emotional control through meditation and diligence to control their actions and reactions, but they have a healthier relationship to emotions. As a result, behavior in Pon Farrs are not as intense as in other universes since they are used to allowing themselves to feel more and channel their emotions to something more constructive rather than being overwhelmed by them. In spite of allowing themselves emotions more, they still show a considerable amount of control over expressing them outwardly due to culture. Being angry and expressing that anger in a subtle more subdued manner is reasonable, but exploding and yelling in public is seen as inappropriate since that sort of expression of emotions is very private and very personal. They can rant and complain to their spouse or a friend about things they are angry about in private without lashing out physically (still highly unacceptable to show personal expressions of violence to others), but in public they can only look vaguely displeased and may be allowed a slightly raised disgruntled voice if in an informal setting.
So, in short: What they may see as appropriate behavior would be inappropriate to Vulcans in most other timelines.
